From Orchard to Market

This month-by-month graphic below shows what’s happening in the orchard and packhouse throughout the year, and how each stage supports quality, consistency, and great fruit for market.

January

There is a focus on AvoGreen pest monitoring, and a natural fruit fall occurs as trees thin themselves.

February

The previous year's avocado export season comes to a close and autumn supply to the domestic market commences.

March

Post-harvest pruning, fertilising and tree injecting are conducted to support tree health and future crop performance.

April

Pest control and soil and leaf testing are key focuses. Fertiliser recommendations are generated for the year ahead.

May

Avocado trees go through a period of autumnal flowering. The first dry matter (fruit maturity) test is completed.

June

This is a dormant period for an avocado tree. Structural pruning is conducted. Harvest of new-season domestic market fruit begins.

July

The avocado export harvest and packing seasons begin. Domestic market harvest and packing continues year-round.

August

Export harvest and packing continues. On the orchard, pre-flowering fertiliser and spray applications are made.

September

Flowering begins and bees are put into the orchard for pollination. Spring flush fertiliser is due on at this time.

October

Export harvest and packing continues. On the orchard another round of fertiliser is applied to support new-season fruitset.

November

Export season continues for mature fruit. Post-flowering, new fruitlets appear as we start preparing orchards for next season.

December

A big harvest month to supply fruit to markets over the holiday period. Fertiliser is added to aid new-season fruit growth.

Helpful at

Harvest

Harvest flexibility

The avocado export season runs from August to February, with some orchards harvesting as early as July. Through our local market partner, BayFarms, Trevelyan’s packs avocados year-round, giving growers flexibility of optimal harvest times and access to both export and BayFarms’ local market sales.

Grower support

Trevelyan’s prioritises transparency and strong communication. We work proactively with our growers to understand their desired markets and ensure they are up-to-date with the relevant AvoGreen, GAP, and Spray Diary requirements.

Harvest operations

We collaborate with growers to understand their harvest needs and establish a harvest plan for their fruit. We then work closely with our growers’ harvest contractors to ensure fruit is promptly harvested and brought to our site, maximising fruit quality and returns.

Comprehensive

Orchard Management

At Trevelyan's, we can offer help and support to avocado growers seeking a comprehensive range of on-orchard services. Growers have the flexibility to choose the level of avocado orchard management service that best suits their needs.
